Her hafta bir grubu konuk aldığımız #AlternatifSesler 'de bu hafta yunan rock grubu Bad Habits ile röportaj gerçekleştirdik.
1 - Birlikte müzik yapmaya nasıl karar verdiniz? Grubun kuruluş süreci nasıldı?
- Merhaba Kritikzine! Bad Habits'den Spiros burada. Her şeyden önce, bu fırsat için size teşekkür etmek istiyoruz. Üçümüz birbirimizi uzun yıllardır tanıyoruz ve geçmişte çeşitli projelerde birlikte oynadık. Biz (Ellie, Apostol, Spiros) bazı L7/Runaways/Ramones coverlarını çalarken eğlenmeye karar verdik, ancak "California"yı yazar yazmaz bu grubun potansiyelini fark ettik ve kadroyu tamamlamak için Severin ve Jo'yu getirdik.
2 - Yakın zamanda üçüncü şarkınız "Not My Call"u yayınladınız. Şarkının yazım süreci nasıldı?

- Evet! Bu doğru. - Sık sık materyal yayınlamaya devam etmek istiyoruz. Hâlâ başlıyoruz, bu yüzden yol boyunca edindiğimiz hayranlara yeni parçalar vermemiz önemli ve umarım bu süreçte yenilerine de ulaşırız. Yani evet, bir sonraki parçamız (veya parçamız?) çok yakında yayınlanacak. Albüm sorusuna gelince... Kaydedilmiş bir sürü malzememiz var. Muhtemelen iki albüm değerinde parça. 1 - How did you decide to make music together? How was the founding process of the band?
- Hello Kritikzine! This is Spiros from Bad Habits. First of all, we'd like to thank you guys for this opportunity. Three of us have known each other for many years and played together in various projects in the past. We (Ellie, Apostol, Spiros) decided to have fun playing some L7/Runaways/Ramones covers, but as soon as we wrote "California" we realized the potential of this band and we brought in Severin and Jo to complete the lineup.
2 - You recently released your third song "Not My Call". How was the writing process of the song?
- You know, each song has a completely different writing process. We don't have a certain formula. For "Not My Call", Ellie brought in the main chords and vocal melody and I proceeded to add the main riff and change up the chorus a bit. Then we built on this base, adding all the drum fills, solo, backing vocals, etc. We're also working on songs a lot in the studio, during the recordings. Our engineer hates us for this, but usually, that's when most of the ideas come up!
3 - We can say that the band blends different rock styles. We can say that it is especially inspired by the old classic rock and punk rock styles. So, how would you describe the band's musical style?
- Yes! You got it right. We're mostly influenced by 70s Rock & Roll bands, blended with early Punk Rock and a taste of 00's mainstream Rock music, since we all grew up in this era. Of course each member has its own influences that subconsciously brings in the band, and although you can't hear them at first listen, if you read between the lines you can find snippets of Hardcore Punk, Heavy Metal, Pop Punk, Glam Rock, and the list goes on. We like to say we're playing Rock & Roll, because these three words for us summarize all these different influences. Rock & Roll isn't just a music genre; it's the attitude, the songwriting style, the lyrical context, the way you play the instruments, everything.
4 - For example, which bands did you draw inspiration from? Who are the new and old bands you listen to?
- I'll speak for myself here. Some of my biggest influences are classics like The Stooges, New York Dolls, Dead Boys, etc but I also love newer (and sadly, lesser-known) bands like Wyldlife, The Good the Bad and the Zugly, and Power Face. I always laugh when someone brings up the "Rock is dead" argument... There are so many great bands and songs out there, you just have to leave your "classic albums" comfort zone and give them a shot.
5 - Will a new song be released soon? And does the band have their first studio album work?
- We want to keep releasing material often. We're still starting out, so it's important that we feed new tracks to the fans we get along the way, and hopefully reach new ones as well in the process. So yes, our next track (or tracks?) is going to be released pretty soon. As far as the album question... We do have a LOT of material recorded. Possibly two albums worth of tracks. But we don't feel it's the right moment for an album release yet, when we drop a complete album we want it to go with a bang.
6 - The pandemic process has been very difficult for all groups and their difficulties still continue. However, we are starting to return to normal and you will be performing as a group at Mammoth Fest for the first time in 8 months. How do you feel for this?
- Sure, it's been hard as hell, especially for us starting the band in the middle of the pandemic and not being able to play a single gig for 8 months. It's frustrating because we're mostly in this for the live shows, the energy, the vibe, the connection with people. You can't replicate this through a phone/computer screen. That being said, we're very grateful for everyone who's supported the band up until now and made it possible (and worth it) for us to continue doing what we love, we just hope we also meet everyone at a concert in the near future! People understand the difficulties behind this and I believe that as soon as gigs start again they'll treat the experience differently. After all, you don't know what you got til it's gone, right?
MammothFest will be our first time playing as Bad Habits in front of an audience, and we want to make the most of this opportunity. We'll be playing along with some classic and some great up-and-coming Greek bands, so this makes it the perfect situation to leave our mark. We've been rehearsing like crazy and can't wait for the time we hit the stage!
7 - What are your biggest future goals?
- We just want to keep playing music that we love, to people that want to hear it, all around the globe. This is the essence of being in a rock band. Traveling around the world, giving everything you got on a stage in front of people going crazy, and then when you visit again, seeing some familiar faces and some new ones.
8 - Do you have something that you want to add finally? What would you like to say to the your Turkish audience?
- Thanks again for the interview, it was a pleasure! Turkish fans have supported us strongly since day one, and we can't thank you guys enough for it.
